Bert is a young boy who is a part of Jimmy's group of friends.

Personality[]

Bert is a kind and naive young boy with an interest in sports, specifically baseball. Despite being regarded as 'mean' earlier on, he ends up being more of a good-natured person, despite his ditzy moments.

Appearance[]

Bert is a young African American male with short black hair cut into a fade and covered with a red cap. He has dark brown eyes and wears a red sweater below a white varsity shirt with matching baseball pants and shoes.

In the second movie, he wears a casual outfit, sporting a black shirt hidden below a grey two-toned hoodie, red sweatpants, and black sneakers. He wears the same costume as he does in the first movie, but his time instead of an SUV, he's driving an electric car.

Biography[]

Scary Godmother: Halloween Spooktacular[]

Movie[]

In the beginning of the movie, Bert skids to the front of the Spook House, getting the attention of Daryl and Katie, who are waiting for him and Jimmy. When Daryl calls for him, he pretends not to hear, mouthing his words until eventually pitching in his voice as he rolls down the 'window' of his costume. When Katie asks him what his costume is supposed to be, Bert proudly states that he's dressed as a 'baseball player driving his SUV', going on a ramble about the different geatures his cardboard ride has, including an anti-lock brakes and an 'atomic-powered laser cannon', earning the praise of Daryl, who announces that he's a piece of candy. Despite being a relatively nice kid at the start of the film, he ultimately ends up agreeing with Jimmy's plan to scare Hannah so she could run home, even laughing at seeing Hannah's scared face once they lock her in the Spook House. While waiting for Hannah to get out of the spook house, Bert is seen passing the time by playing around in his carboard SUV, aggravating Jimmy, and teasing Daryl, to Katie's annoyance as well. While heading inside the house to fetch Hannah, he gets scared by the different monsters of the Fright Side, running out in horror once Hannah 'saves' them.

Book[]

In the book, Bert follows Jimmy in picking Hannah up for Halloween and the group ends up trick-or-treating around various houses, having to stop and help Hannah since she is too small to catch up to them. After convinced with a promise of candy by Jimmy, he agrees to help him in scaring Hannah. Unlike the movie, which made room for scenes of what the group was doing while Hannah was at teh Fright Side, the book doesn't provide much intel, only showing a scene of them panicking over leaving Hannah inside the house, with Bert freaking out about being grounded once his parents find out, scolding himself for listening to Jimmy.

By the end of the book, Bert, along with the rest of his friends end up getting terrorized by the monsters in the Fright Side and cling onto Hannah as they reach the entrance of the house, running out of the house and leaving their candy behind.

Scary Godmother: The Revenge of Jimmy[]

Movie[]

Bert makes a return in "The Revenge of Jimmy", alongside Katie and Daryl. heading over to Jimmy's room. Initially confused at seeing 'him' on his bed, he enters the room and gets scared by each one of Jimmy's traps, and eventually jumpscared by Jimmy himself once he moves to a corner, jumping onto Daryl for safety. Annoyed at Jimmy's paranoia, he announces that he wants to leave, commenting about how strange Jimmy's acting. Once hearing Jimmy's 'Monster-proof' plan, he gets disgusted when Jimmy tells him that he'll wear the same outfit everyday. When Jimmy finishes recounting his plan, Bert comments how they had all agreed that the 'monsters' they faced in the house were actually older kids trying to scare them. When Jimmy announces that he plans on cancelling Halloween, he is against it, and after Jimmy gives them an ultimatum of being with himor against him, he, along with Katie and Daryl look at eachother and leave his house, hanging out with Hannah instead as they prepare for Halloween.

While hanging out with Hannah, they end up facing obstacles leading up to Halloween and reacts negatively. When he notices that the pumpkins have been smashed, he is saddened by it but later recovers and when Daryl suggests to find an alternative. After Katie declines Daryl's suggestion, Bert tells them that they could use brocolli, instead, humourously stating that they wouldn't have to eat it if they end up using them. While walking with Hannah with their new pumpkins, they start debating on which candy is worst, settling on black licorice. Unbeknownst to them, Jimmy overhears their conversation and decides to trick them again, resulting in all the costumes and candy in town being falsely stamped as 'Flammable' and 'Poisonous'. Distraught at the sight and Hannah's conclusion, Bert is saddened. When Daryl begins listing all the candy he knows, he suspects that the last candy Daryl mentions is fake but then tells him that if it were real, then it would also be gone because all the candies were labeled 'poisonous'. Sulking back, him, Katie, and Daryl start talking amongst eachother, with Bert playfully saying that since there aren't any treats, then all that's left are tricks, teasing Daryl that he'll trick his house first, much to the blond boy's dismay. He is then called over by Hannah alongside Daryl and Katie as the young girl suggests making their own treats, and agreeing to the idea of a Halloween party, but wondering about what to do with their costumes. When Hannah tells them that they could make their own costumes, the group agrees, and they end up having said party at the Spook House as they begin spreading out invitations for everyone.

During Halloween, Bert meets with the others whilst dressed in the same outfit as last Halloween, excusing it by saying he's dressed up as a 'baseball player driving an electric car', as opposed to an SUV, saying that 'even baseball players think about the environment'. Once they reach the Spook House, however, they found out it's been covered in toilet paper and, devastated, he starts to give up, raising his hand high before placing it back down, turning away from the house as if he's about to walk away. His sadness is cut short, however, as Hannah begins to imagine that the toilet paper are meant to look like ghosts and his Halloween spirit comes back, cheering that they'll have the "Best Halloween yet!".

Entering the Spook House, him, Katie, and Daryl are cautious in their steps, most likely due to their previous experience and, turning around, they scream in terror at the monsters towering over them. Their terror turns into humor once they realize that the mosters don't intend to harm them and they laugh, with Bert praising them as he talks to Katie. He ends up mingling with the rest of the monsters - specifically Orson - and dances with them.

In the end of the film, he, along with the rest, watch as Jimmy wrestles with Harry for the candy prize and later scream in agreement of Jimmy winning 'Best Costume'. Though off-screen, he is seen grabbing a few candy from the prize after Jimmy and Hannah break the pumpkin together.

Book[]

He has a less prominent role in this version of the special, often being used as a background character throughout the entire book. In contrast to the movie, however, he is seen with a new costume, dressing up as batman rather than a baseball player.

Relationships[]
